In the late 19th century, as the tumultuous Bakumatsu period drew to a close, Japan entered a new era of restoration under the Meiji regime. With the violence of the era subsiding, the infamous hero Hitokiri Battousai vanished from the scene, leaving behind a legendary legacy.

Several years later, a seemingly unassuming wanderer by the name of Kenshin Himura crosses paths with Kaoru Kamiya, the owner of a struggling local dojo in Tokyo. Kaoru is on a quest to apprehend a self-proclaimed Battousai who roams the streets, ruthlessly killing citizens and lawmen. Adding to the intrigue, this imposter claims to wield the Kamiya Kasshin-ryu, a sword style founded by Kaoru’s late father, centered on preserving life rather than ending it.

Upon discovering this disturbing imposter, Kenshin takes it upon himself to assist Kaoru in unmasking the false Battousai and restoring her father’s dojo to its former glory. Unbeknownst to everyone, Kenshin is, in fact, the genuine warrior whose very name once struck terror into the hearts of the people. While Kaoru eventually uncovers Kenshin’s true identity, she is moved by his unwavering commitment to atone for his violent past by protecting the vulnerable without shedding blood. As a result, she extends an invitation for Kenshin to take up residence at her dojo. Yet, Kenshin’s deeply-held principles soon face challenges as he grapples with both the ghosts of his past and threats of the present day. This enthralling narrative explores themes of redemption, forgiveness, and the enduring struggle for a peaceful future.
